InItaliano has each year provided support to the schools and families by donating books and resources and participating in school initiatives and enrolment campaigns. Get in touch if you wish to help or have resources to redistribute.

È arrivato il momento di ultimare l'iscrizione scolastica e non sai da dove iniziare... ricordati di segnalare correttamente le lingue che si parlano a casa anche se da uno solo dei genitori.  È  importante al momento dell'iscrizione, perché è solo in questo modo che il DOE comprende l'effettiva presenza di madre lingua italiani. Ugualmente non avere timore di segnalare che tuo figlio non parla l'inglese anche nei vari sondaggi del CENSUS (che sono totalmente anonimi e che puoi fare anche se sei a NY temporaneamente). Anche noi di InItaliano abbiamo bisogno di queste informazioni!

L'iscrizione alla scuola va ripetuta ogni anno, anche nel passaggio dal pre-k al k. Quando si è interessati al programma bilingue italiano, bisogna cliccare "Italian dual language" che dà l'accesso alla prima classe del DL, ossia il k. Cliccare su "kindergarten" significa richiedere l'inserimento alla classe k del GenEd (vedi foto sottostante).

The school has two Italian teachers who teach reading, music, songs, maths in two languages. This means that the children are all exposed to the Italian language and that they participate in cultural events or commemorations (i.e. Carnevale italiano or Festa della Repubblica).

Manhattan public school PS242 was given the go-ahead by the DOE to start an Italian bilingual program in 2018. PS242 is the only elementary public school with an International Baccalaureate. Read about the school's IB philosophy

The school is located at Lefferts Park, Bensonhurst (Brooklyn). Further details on the curriculum, teachers and the Italian program can be found on the website.

Broooklyn-based public school PS112 launched its Italian bilingual program in 2015. Since then, the program has expanded by adding a class each year. 

The goal of this program is "to raise awareness of Italian culture and encourage diversity, while simultaneously providing instruction in both English and Italian".
